Reduce Anxiety and Fear with Sedation Dentistry in Wichita Falls

Does the thought of going to the dentist for your routine teeth cleaning make you cringe? Would you rather avoid going to the dentist and suffer from your toothache? If this is you, you are not alone! Fear of going to the dentist and avoiding treatment is rather common. However, putting off your visit to the dentist can put your oral health at risk.

To remedy this, we at Falls Town Dental have sedation dentistry which can help reduce some of the fear and anxiety you might experience.  Sedation can be used for anything from routine teeth cleaning to invasive dental procedures. Being that there are a few options available, the type of sedation depends on the level of fear and anxiety you might have.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

Whether you have an extensive treatment plan or regular teeth cleaning, we offer options that are safe, effective, and beneficial to you.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas is the most common technique used for sedation. Laughing gas is designed to help lessen the anxieties and fear that you may have. The nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen which helps you to breathe comfortably, as well as allow for sedation to be efficient and successful. The gas is administered through a mask placed over your mouth and nose, which is attached to the tank containing the mixture.

Nitrous oxide allows you to remain awake as well as alert during the procedure; however, you will feel very relaxed during the duration. This sedation technique leaves the system quickly and does not leave you feeling groggy as with other options.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral Conscious sedation is administered in either pill or liquid form and is taken before your scheduled appointment. The prescription strength medication given is designed to help you relax and may make you feel sleepy before, during, and after your visit. This method of sedation can provide us with enough time to complete your whole treatment in one visit. Since you might experience some side effects such as sleepiness, grogginess, and a relaxed mood it is necessary for a friend or family member to drive you home.

If you choose to have a sedation dental procedure, you could benefit from

  • Completing all or most of your dental treatment
  • Overcoming any anxiety or fear of your visit
  • Greatly reduce any pain or discomfort
