Reduce Anxiety and Fear with Sedation Dentistry in Wichita Falls

anxiety free dental services Wichita Falls

Fear of going to the dentist and avoiding treatment is rather common. However, putting off your visit to the dentist can put your oral health at risk and lead to large problems down the road.

Our team understands that it’s not easy for everyone to visit the dentist regularly because anxiety or discomfort can make it difficult to sit in the dental chair, or even enter the office. To relieve anxiety, our office is warm and inviting, and everyone on the team is gentle and compassionate. We also keep you informed of every step in your treatment process, building an unmatched level of trust.

We also offer a variety of sedation options to help you gain a relaxed and calm state of mind. We are highly qualified to administer nitrous, oral, and IV sedation safely as part of our patient-first focus. We do our best to make you comfortable so you can accomplish your treatment goals.

At Falls Town Dental we offer sedation dentistry which can help reduce the fear and anxiety you might experience. Sedation can be used for anything from routine cleaning and fillings to more invasive dental procedures. Being that there are a few options available, the type of sedation depends on the level of fear and anxiety you might have.

To learn more about sedation dentistry and how it may help you, please feel free to contact our office.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

Whether you have an extensive treatment plan or regular teeth cleaning, we offer options that are safe, effective, and beneficial to you.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is the most common technique used for sedation. Laughing gas is designed to help lessen the anxieties and fear that you may have but is usually used for smaller or shorter procedures. The gas is administered through a mask placed over your mouth and nose, which is attached to the tank containing the mixture.

Nitrous oxide allows you to remain awake and alert during the procedure but still very relaxed. This sedation technique leaves the system quickly allowing you to drive home after the completion of the procedure.

Relaxed patient getting dental services in Wichita Falls, TexasOral Conscious sedation is administered in either pill or liquid form and is taken before your scheduled appointment. The prescription strength medication given is designed to help you relax and may make you feel sleepy before, during, and after your visit. This method of sedation can provide us with enough time to complete your whole treatment in one visit. Since you might experience some side effects such as sleepiness, grogginess, and a relaxed mood it is necessary for a friend or family member to drive you home.

Our team provides IV sedation, which is a form of moderate sedation that allows patients to feel as though they slept through the entire procedure. Although stronger than oral or nitrous sedation, you will still be capable of responding when spoken to or asked questions, but patients typically have no memory of the procedure at all. Used primarily for extended dental procedures, this is a safe sedation option that requires little downtime. This type of sedation has a few extra requirements regarding food intake and contraindicated medications, which we will be sure to instruct you on before treatment. You will also need someone to accompany you to and from your appointment and stay with you until you are completely free of the effects.

Dr. Fort has completed hundreds of sedation cases and completed a 2-year residency after dental school where he received his certification in IV sedation. He also completed a hospital rotation where he trained side by side with medical anesthesiologists learning advanced techniques. If you have questions, please contact our office today to schedule an appointment. We are here to answer your questions and provide the treatment you deserve!

Who Can Benefit From Sedation Dentistry?

Anyone who has enough fear or anxiety to keep them from going to the dentist can benefit from our sedation options. Other people who can benefit from sedation are those who:

  • Have a low threshold for pain.
  • Find it difficult to sit still in the dentist chair.
  • Have special needs and find it difficult to understand their treatment.
  • Have extremely sensitive teeth.
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex.
  • Need an extensive amount of dental work done.

Before your procedure, we will carefully review your medical history to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for sedation. If you are taking any medication, be sure to let us know. Our medications are FDA approved, and our dentist is specifically trained to administer the treatments.
